Wilbur’s Travels Part One – Travelling By Train Across The Balkans
I have loved writing ever since the age of four when my teacher awarded me three gold stars for my account of Peter and the Wolf.
As I grew up I fell in with football in my formative years and then developed a passion for travel, initially through travelling by train to get to football matches. It therefore felt natural to first write a football related book, which was commissioned by a publisher in 2012, and then a travel related tome which I self-published in 2015.
The subjects of my travel book are train tours I have undertaken in the Balkan region as I ran the rails in Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Northern Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia and European Turkey.
It covers thousands of track kilometres, describing the journeys, the many mishaps and the collection of characters that were met along the way.
It also features quite a lot of dark beer – the best beer in the world!
Available from Amazon as both an e-book & paperback, Travelling By Train Across The Balkans is sure to whet your appetite for adventure train travel.
I am also planning follow ups featuring train travels behind the Former Iron Curtain and also across the ex-Soviet Union and will be publishing excerpts on this site from time to time.
